Subha Cable - Board Member

Hi my name is Subha Cable. I am an accountant by profession and have lived in Tauranga for over 15 years. I am married and have a 9 year-old daughter, Shakira, who attends Tauranga Primary School. My husband, Rob Cable is a surgeon who has lived in Tauranga for over 30 years.

I was born and raised in India, where I did my early schooling years, in Mumbai, Chennai and New Delhi. While living in New Delhi, I obtained a BA in German and was working as a translator there. I then got married and moved to the US to seek better opportunities, where I obtained a second degree, in Accounting. I also passed the Certified Public Accounting (CA in New Zealand) exam in Iowa and was hired at campus interview to work as a CPA for a local accounting firm, where I gained audit experience. After five brutal winters in Iowa, my then husband and I decided to move to a warmer climate and California was the obvious choice. I worked in San Diego as a tax accountant when I went through a divorce and subsequently, met Rob, married him and moved to New Zealand. I worked as an accountant here in Tauranga for Ingham Mora Ltd. until I had my daughter. Since then, I have been in charge of my husband's Practice accounting work. It allows me flexible hours at work while I spend as much time as possible looking after the interests of our daughter.

My hobbies are skiing, running, trekking, reading and doing cryptic crosswords and sudoku. I have just run my first half-marathon and about to do my second one. I have also managed Shakira's netball team at Tauranga Primary and now have completed the umpire's workshop at the Harbourside Netball Centre and have started to umpire some of the netball games on Saturdays.

Since my daughter started school nearly four and half years ago, I have taken an avid interest in the New Zealand way of education. Apart from my accounting skills, I believe that that I would bring international diversity to the Board at Tauranga Intermediate.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute to our community by selecting me to be on the Board of Trustees at Tauranga Intermediate School.
